HAALAND CAPS OFF FIGHTBACK AS PEP GUARDIOLA'S SIDE REMAIN PERFECT

 

West Ham United boss David Moyes made James Ward-Prowse his key summer transfer target to replace Declan Rice. The midfielder proved why at the London Stadium on Saturday when firing The Hammers in front against Manchester City, but Jeremy Doku and Bernardo Silva inspired the champions to a comeback win on the road - with Erling Haaland sealing the win.

Bernardo Silva scored and then set up a sealer for Erling Haaland as Manchester City secured a come-from-behind victory at West Ham.

City dominated the early play and West Ham had Alphonse Areola and errant finishing from Haaland to thank for parity in the first third of the game, before they took the lead on the break.

Vladimir Coufal raced forward and found James Ward-Prowse unmarked at the back post where he stooped to head home.

Less than a minute after the restart, recent City signing Jeremy Doku raced into the area and curled an unstoppable low shot inside the far corner.

Both sides could have gone in front after this with Ederson making the best save of the match to deny Kurt Zouma's header, before City went ahead 14 minutes from time.

Nayef Aguerd, who earlier saved a goal by clearing a Haaland effort off the line, misjudged a looping Julian Alvarez ball, and Bernardo snuck behind him to steer past Areola.

As The Hammers went forward looking for an equaliser, Bernardo got the ball on the break and raced to the edge of the area before setting up Haaland to extend City's 100% start to the season.

City lie two points clear of Liverpool on top of the table. The Hammers are sixth after their first defeat of the campaign.
